![]() ![]() You can either choose to leave the feature off, have it on for all calls, or have your phone prompt you for each call. Tapping on the option brings up a pop-up menu which lets you define the behavior of the call transcriptions. If you have a Pixel 4 or 3 device, you can see this feature by tapping on the new ‘Caption calls’ option within the Live Caption settings. Live Caption captures audio from your device and runs it through three on-device machine learning models to generate captions from an English-language speech. Google already had a Live Caption feature, Along with the launch of Pixel 4a, it was announced that Live Caption would support the ability to transcribe phone calls. The captions would be obviously about what you are saying on the phone. But this time Google has given the update only to its Pixel devices.Īfter this new update, users would be able to see captions during phone calls. Mostly all of its new updates roll out for every device running on android or iOS. Google always comes up with cool new features. With that being irrelevant I think the issue is we see something that doesn't work and instead of doing what this guy did and saying "I wonder why" with a constructive thought and wonder we react with, "Google bad.Google Pixel devices get a cool new addition in the form of live captions during calls. Likewise these are the same subs that are like, "why do you have 10 apps Google." Google limits those apps and then the subs are like, "oh no Google is becoming more like Apple." There is this constant assumption it will because of Google's past but then this sub and many others forget that Google had all this data and it uses this data to figure things out like do people use Gmail or Inbox more? Inbox died because Gmail is more dominant and there for over took Inbox. But that doesn't mean it's just going to rot and go away. Live captions is never going to "rot." Could updating it be quietly forgotten? Yes, sure. "Quietly forget about it and let it rot." For those audibly impaired. Other projects can become a focus and this doesn't mean something that does work rots which leads me to my next point. My point is that companies can say theyxare going to do things and then get held back by say something like a pandemic. "Promise updates and improvements later." promise I don't think companies strictly say, "we promise." While I understand your wording is to make a point and you don't think companies do actually do this yourself. ![]() If not then live captions functions really well and I would say is far from half baked. If you are looking at this as half baked because more languages were not supported as promised then yes half baked.
